Birth preperation in Copenhagen

Birth preparation, pregnancy and postpartum support in English, German, and Danish – personalized for you and your partner

Pregnant in Copenhagen Profile.jpeg

Hej mom and dad to be!

I'm Nora.
Your doula in Copenhagen.

Becoming a mom or dad is easier in your native language.

All the questions, thoughts and feelings are easier to put into words if you can express yourself in your native language - especially during birth. Even if we speak a foreign language fluently, it can be difficult to find or understand the right words. Especially in a situation where we are under pressure. Who knows technical terms relating to pregnancy and birth in a foreign language?

I support you in your native language. Through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.

My mission

Short and sweet

I want to help families to get a good start. A birth is the greatest experience in the lives of parents. I hope that more moms and dads land in the postpartum period with a birth experience in which they were fully present and with a feeling of fulfillment and gratitude. A lot of things cannot be planned and yet we can influence more than we might think.

"Birth is the beginning of life; the beginning of motherhood and fatherhood. We all deserve a good beginning."

– Barbara Katz Rothman

"Nora took lots of time during our introductory meeting and listened to us. She always customized our meetings before and after birth to our needs and lovingly supported us with great ideas and tips. For me, it was also really nice to be able to ask questions and make short phone calls in my mother tongue. An excellent supplement to the Danish healthcare system, which I will also use for child no. 2."

  • When should I hire a doula?
At the beginning of your pregnancy it can be difficult to know exactly what you need. If you are considering hiring a doula, feel free to contact doulas early in your pregnancy and see if you feel like this doula could support you. You can't hire a doula too early. But not too late either. If you are already far along in your pregnancy and suddenly feel the need for more support, talk to a doula to see, if you could imagine being supported by her.
  • Why should I hire a doula?
Continuous support and care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period Individualized birth preparation, tailored exactly to your birth wishes, so that you go into birth with confidence Independent support and care at your desired place of birth Guaranteed 1:1 care from a trusted person who gets to know you and your wishes during your pregnancy Active support for you and your partner or birth support
  • Doesn't a doula disrupt an extremely intimate moment?
If you decide to take a doula with you to your birth, it will be based on your requirements. Maybe you want to be alone most of the time, and the doula should just be there as a backup - in the hallway or nearby. Maybe the doula is in the room but stays completely silent unless you or your partner asks her. Maybe you would like active support through acupressure, words, etc... Get to know your doula, get to know yourself and your wishes and make a plan together. The birth experience belongs to you as the woman giving birth and your partner.
  • What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
Both the midwife and the doula aim to provide the pregnant woman with the best possible support. While the midwife has medical responsibility and focuses on the health of the mother and baby, the doula has the task of supporting the mother emotionally, mentally and practically. Midwives examine mom and baby, doulas do not diagnose or make recommendations. With your doula you are guaranteed 1:1 care from a trusted person who you get to know in advance. You will meet the midwife for the first time at the birth and can change shifts depending on the length and time of the birth.
  • That all sounds great. But I don't need a doula.
This is one of the most common thoughts. I had that thought myself at the beginning of my pregnancy - and then it turned out to be the best investment. Because the birth of your child is the greatest thing we experience. And it shapes us so powerfully. Birth shapes us as moms and also as dads. Take care of your birth before it happens. Many women regret not having sought more care afterwards. Both during pregnancy and birth. I don't know any woman who has regretted hiring a doula, but I know a few who regret they that they didn't.
  • What is the role of a doula?
The doula's job is to support the woman and witness her through the special time of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. The type of accompaniment is highly individual and depends on the needs of the woman. At the beginning of the relationship we find out together what form of support the mother or the couple needs. A doula does not work dogmatically and does not "prescribe" a certain way of breathing or dictate how a birth should take place. She accompanies the woman and the couple to find what works for them. A doula is not trained to make medical decisions. However, she knows the common interventions and is trained to explain them and thereby help the couple make informed decisions. She helps the mom go through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period with confidence, trusting their body and their intuition.
  • How do I find the right doula for me?
You will experience the right doula as compassionate, passionate about the topics of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, with the aim of always bringing you into your power and encouraging you to listen to your intuition so that you can get to know and implement your wishes. Take the time to get to know a few doulas to choose who is right for you. When choosing a doula, you can ask questions such as: What is her background? How did she come to want to become a doula? What languages does she speak? What philosophy does she follow in supporting moms and dads? Can she help you create a birth plan/wish list? Where can you meet her? Does she come to your house or does she have a practice? Or maybe she works online? What are your experiences with births and support during pregnancy and the postpartum period? Can she communicate with the clinic staff? But the most important thing is the wavelength and your gut feeling: Can you imagine that the doula accompanies you in your most intimate moments?
  • How much does your support cost?
We always start with a free introduction. The wishes and needs of expectant moms and dads are very individual and can change along the way. In our first conversation, we will find out your needs together and put together a support plan that suits you. Maybe you're still unsure how much support you want before or after the birth. Maybe you just want a session for yourself to discuss current thoughts... A single session costs DKK 1,500. There are various package options that allow you to pay less per session, e.g. Package of 3: 4,000 DKK including Moms (11% discount) Package of 5: 6,000 DKK including Moms (20% discount) Package of 8: 9,000 DKK including Moms (25% discount) All meetings last approximately 2 hours and take place at your home. In all packages you have Whatsapp support and I am always available for any questions that arise. The individual sessions can include, for example: Understanding the Danish system Birth preparation How can your partner provide optimal support? Which breathing techniques help you? Choice of birthplace Anxiety and pain management Birth plan creation Postpartum planning Birth debriefing Postpartum support (support bonding, discussing challenges as parents, supporting you when your baby cries) We find exactly what suits you and you. Simply get in touch for a free, non-binding meeting and let’s chat. I look forward to getting to know you.

I accompany you in finding your own path. How would you like to experience pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period?

Get in touch to get to know me. I'll share my experiences with you in the first meeting, so that you definitely have a better overview of the Danish system and feel supported and accompanied. The meeting is of course non-binding. You don't have to book anything with me afterwards. I'm looking forward to chatting with you and getting to know you.

What does science say about support by a doula*?

If the woman in labor is constantly accompanied:

  • Caesarean section rate reduced by 50%

  • the use of forceps/suction cups reduced by 40%

  • the demand for an epidural decreased by 60%

  • a contraction drip reduced by 40%

  • the length of birth was shortened by 25%

*Source: Hodnett et al. Cochrane Database,Systemic Review 2003: 15 studies with almost 13,000 women looked at the influence of continuous care during childbirth. In general, continued support during birth was more beneficial when it started early in labor and when the support person was not a hospital staff member.
